Ticks, climate and research equity

A study proposed by an African research team: what the world knows about ticks and climate change, and who produces that knowledge.

Now: Analysis for three papers · Updated 2026-10-23

A partner-led study. This project was proposed by an African research team. CognosX leads the research mapping and analysis; the team uses the results to find research gaps and support grant applications. Part of the Research in Africa programme.

The question

Ticks spread diseases to people and animals, and climate change is moving them to new places. This study looks at the world’s research on ticks: what is known, which topics are growing or fading, who produces and leads the research, and whether African researchers lead the work on problems that affect Africa.

How: a science-of-science study of tick research from seven bibliographic sources, with a systematic review (PRISMA 2020) alongside it. Records were screened with AI and then checked by hand.
